WIKIS:
pbwiki is an online, collaborative website which enables students to contribute infomation and knowledge they have gained throughout their course work to one shared place. Now students are able to collaborate anywhere, anytime with other students and gain instantaneous recognition for their efforts. Teachers are able to regulate the website and work alongside students in building an online database of infomation for specfic course contents.

The use of pbwiki in the classroom, makes students responsible for the amount of infomation that is published and the quality to which that is achieved. Student work is made significant not only to the classroom but also to the wider community.

USING THIS PBWIKI:
Teachers can use this wiki in their classrooms as a case study when studying archaeology or local history. The site offers indepth infomation about the dig, with images, interviews and daily logs of infomation. Along with this site teachers can use dvd material about the dig site.
Teachers can implement the use of belgennydig.pbwiki in their lesson development and unit programming. Use the infomation provided on this site accompanied by supplementry material to inform students about HOW archaeological digs are conducted, WHAT archaeologists may find on their digs and the PURPOSE of archaeology in developing our knowledge of the past.
Junior History students can use this site when they are introduced to the art of archaeology. They will be able to develop an understanding of exactly how much infomation we can recieve from archaeological digs and how important they are in developing their local history.
Senior history students, especially those studying ancient history can gain a perspective of an archaeological dig that is local, and important to the understanding of their town history. It puts into perspective how an archaeological dig is conducted and gives first hand accounts of the dig process. Although Ancient history students will be looking at the history of places a great distance from Belgenny, they are able to develop their own understanding and broaden their knowledge of archaeology from a local source.
Teachers can provide questions and research tasks that incorporate belgennydig.pbwiki into student resources. Students can evaluate the artefacts found from the dig, which are provided through images on this site. They could also assess the process of archaeology itself.
